While I will fight for bold, progressive solutions, we must also recognize that Arizona’s current legislature is controlled by the GOP.
That's why I will reach across the aisle to pass common sense, bipartisan reforms that benefit our community.
In office, I will introduce the following legislation—which is broadly supported by all Arizonans—Democrat, Republican, and Independent.
- Legislation to Support Mothers and Newborns: Breastfeeding is key to both a mother and baby’s health. Breastfeeding protects against allergies, infections, and other illnesses for newborns, and has been shown to reduce breast cancer and osteoporosis in mothers. That’s why I would work with colleagues from both parties to tear down barriers to breastfeeding. I introduce legislation to ensure that breast pumps, breast pump repair and replacement parts, and other related items are excluded from the state sales tax.
- Fighting Against Wage Theft by Greedy Corporations: Every year, corporations steal billions of dollars—more than all burglaries, robberies, larcenies, and motor vehicle thefts combined—from workers. It’s called “wage theft” and it occurs when corporations pay workers less than what they’re owed, including paying less than the minimum wage or failing to pay workers overtime. I would reach across the aisle to crack down on corporations that steal from Arizona workers. Any business that engages in wage theft should automatically be banned from getting a government contract in Arizona.
- Cracking Down on Crooked Politicians: Being an elected official should be an act of public service—not a money-making racket. That’s why I would partner with my Republican colleagues to pass legislation to take away a politician’s pension if they are found guilty of corrupt acts while in office.
- Expanding Opportunity for Military Families and Foster Youth: I would work in a bipartisan way to ensure that the spouses and children of military service members stationed in Arizona qualify for in-state tuition at Arizona higher education institutions. I would also introduce legislation to provide a 100% tuition and fees waiver for any foster child attending an Arizona public college or university.
